New Rail separates normal active running from emergency mechanical restraint. During normal running, four safety wheels remain clear of the inner rail faces. In an emergency, they provide four-point mechanical restraint against excessive lateral displacement and horizontal rotation (yaw).
The single-axle cylindrical-wheel bogie has four safety wheels, positioned at the front and rear of the left and right running wheels.
Normal Running
The cylindrical running wheels follow the rails through active running-distance control. The safety wheels maintain a non-contact clearance from the inner rail faces.
Emergency Restraint
If excessive lateral displacement or yaw occurs, the safety wheels contact the inner rail faces and mechanically restrain the movement that could lead to derailment.
The front, rear, left and right arrangement provides four-point restraint against both lateral and rotational movement.
Each safety-wheel unit uses a dish-shaped conical wheel mounted on an inclined axle.
The inclination positions the conical outer surface facing the rail vertically, enabling the safety wheel to support the inner face of the rail.
Design Embodiment
Wheel diameter: Ø200 mm ~ Ø300 mm
Axle installation angle: 30° relative to the horizontal
Wheel rotation: Free rotation around a fixed axle
Inclined support member: The safety-wheel axle is fixed perpendicular to the inclined member
Horizontal support member: An internal screw structure allows lateral movement
Integrated support: The inclined and horizontal members form one support assembly
The 30° angle and Ø200 mm diameter are dimensions of the illustrated design embodiment.
Normal Active Running — Non-Contact
The safety wheels remain separated from the inner rail faces.
Normal clearance: 3–5 mm (design embodiment)
The vehicle is guided by active running-distance control rather than continuous safety-wheel contact.
Emergency Safety — Four-Point Mechanical Restraint
The four safety wheels bear against the inner rail faces when excessive lateral displacement or yaw occurs.
This mechanical restraint provides an independent safety function to supplement normal active running control.
Normal running is controlled actively, while emergency derailment restraint is provided mechanically by four separate safety wheels.
The safety-wheel structure separates digital running control from physical emergency restraint.
The numerical dimensions and clearance are design-example values, rather than universal requirements for every New Rail application.

New Rail
