The European active-bogie technologies reviewed in our comparison introduce independent wheel rotation and active control while retaining flanged conical wheels.
New Rail goes further by changing the mechanical foundation first: constant-diameter cylindrical running wheels, separate safety wheels and a load-decoupled single-axle bogie. On this foundation, it enables whole-bogie active steering, fixed-turnout route selection and AI virtual-rail control.
The difference is not simply how the wheels are controlled. It is how the wheel, safety, load and steering functions are structured from the beginning.
Flanged conical wheels combine running, guidance and emergency safety in the running wheel. Independent rotation can remove axle-speed coupling, but the conical tread still has a contact-position-dependent rolling radius.
Constant-diameter cylindrical wheels handle running and travel-distance control. Separate safety wheels provide emergency restraint, while the load-decoupled bogie enables whole-bogie active steering.
Six Structural Differences
New Rail changes the physical architecture before applying active control and AI.
Reviewed approaches: flanged conical tread
New Rail: flange-free cylindrical running surface with constant diameter
Reviewed approaches: effective rolling radius varies with contact position
New Rail: constant diameter provides a direct physical reference for travel-distance control
Reviewed approaches: running wheel and flange retain the safety function
New Rail: emergency safety is assigned to separate safety wheels
Reviewed approaches: active control operates within the existing conical-wheel/rail load environment
New Rail: vertical loads and steering-related horizontal forces and moments follow separate paths
Conventional rail: trackside switching selects the route
New Rail: both routes remain open and the vehicle actively enters the selected route
New Rail: lateral error corrects the current run while the virtual rail is updated, stored and reused for later runs
An Integrated System, Not a Single-Feature Upgrade
New Rail is not a cylindrical wheel alone, an active-steering bogie alone, or an AI control layer added to a conventional railway vehicle.
Its competitive difference comes from combining constant-diameter cylindrical wheels, separate mechanical safety, load-decoupled connections, whole-bogie steering, fixed-turnout route selection and AI virtual-rail control as one integrated architecture.
Change the mechanical foundation first. Then use active control and AI on that new foundation.

New Rail:
New Rail:
New Rail:
New Rail:
New Rail:
New Rail:
