New Rail’s simulation connects virtual-rail geometry, independent wheel-speed commands and bogie movement in a digital model.
The following videos show a wheel-calibration test run and running on a track containing straight and curved sections. They illustrate how the control references relate to the movement of the two-axle bogie.
The test track combines two 60 m straight sections and curves with a radius of 15 m. Position markers identify locations along the route, while a calibration zone around the starting point provides reference positions for the test run.
The model consists of two single-axle bogies connected by a common two-axle frame. Each single-axle bogie has independently controlled left and right cylindrical wheels.
Virtual-rail information, error inputs and operating settings are connected to the bogie model and control calculations. Results are reviewed through running videos and recorded data.
The first video shows the bogie moving forward and backward along the straight calibration section and returning to the starting position.
The display distinguishes the centers of the front and rear single-axle bogies from the center of the common frame. Position, speed, direction and lateral-error readouts accompany the movement.
Watch the movement relative to the reference markers, the changes in direction and the final stop.
This video presents the test-run procedure used for wheel calibration. Its focus is the relationship between the reference positions, commanded movement and displayed bogie state.

The second video shows the two-axle bogie following the virtual-rail paths through straight sections, curves and changes in running direction.
The display shows separate rotational-speed commands for all four wheels. On straight track, the left and right targets match. On curves, the outer wheels receive higher speed commands to cover the longer paths.
The front and rear single-axle bogies are controlled according to their respective positions along the track.
Watch how the four wheel-speed commands change as the bogies enter and leave each curve, while their centers follow the reference paths.
Together, the videos illustrate the connection between virtual-rail geometry, independent wheel-speed control and bogie path following. (You can view the video more clearly by selecting a high-quality setting.)

New Rail
